To make sure West Kent is ready for any emergency, all the public bodies work together on emergency planning.
At a Kent-wide level, this planning is co-ordinated by the Kent Resilience Forum, which brings together the police, fire and ambulance, local authorities and the NHS.
PCTs have particular responsibilities under the Civic Contingencies Act 2004. These are to:
- assess the risk of emergencies and use this to inform planning
- put in place and test emergency plans
- put in place business continuity arrangements
- put in place arrangements to make information available to the public about civil protection matters and maintain arrangements to warn, inform and advise the public in the event of an emergency
- share information and cooperate with other local responders to enhance coordination and efficiency.
- West Kent PCT has emergency management arrangements in place, which set out how the PCT will act in the event of a major incident or emergency - and how it will help protect the health of the local population
