West Kent PCT runs six community hospitals for people recovering from illness or injury.
They provide round-the-clock nursing care, and are led by modern matrons. Medical input comes from GPs. The focus is on rehabilitation and helping people to regain their independence.
Three of the hospitals have minor injuries units staffed by emergency nurse practitioners. They are qualified to diagnose and treat conditions such as suspected broken arms or lower legs, cuts and grazes, strains and sprains, and small burns.
The PCT also runs centres at Darent Valley Hospital and Maidstone Hospital which deal with illnesses as well as minor injuries.
Accident and Emergency services are provided at the three main hospitals in West Kent: Darent Valley Hospital, Maidstone Hospital and Kent and Sussex Hospital.
