Strategic Commissioning Plan 2010 - 2015

In 2009 we decided to carry out a fundamental redevelopment of our Strategic Plan in the light of the developments in the rapidly changing world around us.

The Strategic Commissioning Plan 2010-2015 sets out the priorities for NHS West Kent over the next 5 years, taking into account the financial climate, increasing demand and the provider landscape.

The refreshed plan aims to set out how we intend to realise the “ambition to ensure that all West Kent people enjoy the best possible health”. We have revisited our aims and developed four main goals:
  • To eliminate waste to maximise reinvestment and build a sustainable future;
  • To improve health, length and quality of life, and quality of services;
  • To eradicate the gap in life expectancy;
  • To deliver national, regional and county commitments and targets.
The strategy has been developed in three stages:
  • Analysis of spend against population changes, need, health outcomes, patient experience, service quality and productivity
  • Working with providers to identify opportunities under each of the emerging priority areas
  • Refining initiatives, prioritising, and detailed financial modelling
At each of these stages key stakeholders have been involved: Health Network, Health and Overview Scrutiny Committee (HOSC), Kent LINk, Kent County Council, Local Borough/District authorities, providers including voluntary sector, NHS and private sector and clinicians.
