Our specialist ADHD nurses promote the wellbeing and life chances of children and young people who have ADHD and associated difficulties.
Attention deficit hyper-activity disorder is a fairly common condition.
The disorder is an impairment of either activity or attention control or both and its principal characteristics are inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. These symptoms appear early in a child’s life. Because many normal children may have these symptoms, but at a low level, or the symptoms may be caused by another disorder, it is important that the child receive a thorough examination and appropriate diagnosis by a well-qualified professional.
Our nurses provide behavioural support, education and advice to children with ADHD and their families, carers, health and educational professionals. This service caters for youngsters from six years of age and those in primary school (older children are seen by staff at the Kent and Medway NHS and Social Care Trust). Children eligible for the service have significant impairment in more than one setting. They also need to be on the school special needs register.
Referrals to our service come from schools, GPs, school nurses and occasionally health visitors or other paediatricians.
Clinics are normally held at:
- Cranbrook, Jockey Lane Clinic
- Edenbridge Hospital
